FM2011 Custom Databases

This article will be continuously updated as more databases are added and upgraded. Some of these databases are purely superficial, some are attribute-changing and will affect your gameplay in terms of player and team performances.

The way head researchers for SI work, is that they research their teams and put in values for each player based on a scale that is in comparison to all other players in the world. The attributes are indeed very accurate, and the researchers do a great job. However, as they submit their research before FM is released, they won’t know how the attributes actually translates into the actual gameplay.

As an example; in the default database, Nicola Zigic has a 20 Jumping, 16 Finishing and 17 Heading. This is all good in comparison to other players in the world, but the problem is that the match engine is in favour of tall players, so Zigic will score massive amounts of goals. Therefor, to make it more realistic, we should drastically lower his Finishing and Heading attributes. He will still score goals, but in more realistic numbers.

The attribute changing databases have been done by starting new games, 6 months into the season, checking all the league tables and player stats, and then adjusting attributes accordingly. We would then end up with attributes that take the match engine into account.

Instructions

To use one or more of these database files, place them in the following folder on your computer:

(My) Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2011/editor data/

To use these database files, you unfortunately have to start a new save. When you do, you will be presented with the ‘Choose database’ panel. In order to select which databases to use, tick the ‘Change’ box at the lower right of that panel, here:

And then choose whatever databases you want to apply. You can apply as many as you want, all the changes will be applied. So if you choose both the Competition Names database and the Arsenal Changing Kits database, you will have both correct competition names and changing Arsenal kits in your new save.

This also means that you can choose to only apply one of the databases if you wish, maybe to avoid changes made to player and team attributes? It’s up to you what you want to apply or not.

Select which ones you want and then press ‘Confirm’.

Now you pick your leagues and such, just as usual. Done!

Competition Names

A work in progress, but it does have correct competition names for all the major leagues and competitions. Examples; instead of English Premier Division, it’s called Barclays Premier League – instead of European Champions Cup it’s now called UEFA Champions League (and has the correct black/white colour scheme instead of blue/yellow). And so on.

If you have any suggestions for competition name changes, give me a shout!

2010/2011 Premier League Fixtures

These were made by Barkermush over at Sortitoutsi.net, click here to see the thread regarding this database. This will give you all the correct Premier League fixtures for the 2010/2011 season. If you untick ‘move matches for TV’, they will even have the correct TV dates up until January. After that, tick ‘move matches for TV’ again to randomise the rest of the season.

General Update

This database file will update several clubs and individuals to better reflect reality. The reason for all these changes is to emulate real life results better. I usually start a game in December and see how teams perform. If a team is over-performing compared to reality, I scale down managers and/or players. And vice versa if the team is under-achieving. The goal is to get somewhat realistic results.

So keep that in mind – even though some changes might seem odd or over the top, they are made to counter some unrealistic behaviour in the game.

Arsenal Changing Kits

This database enables you to have in-game changing away/third 3D kits every year (with some limitations). The kits in the 3D match engine will change, and so will the title panel colours. The colour changes will only occur for a limited amount of time (10 years for away kits, 6 years for third kits), due to the editor not being able to handle too many custom kits.

The away kits change every year until 2020, and the classic yellow/blue/blue colours are used from that point on. The third kits are always last years away strip, and those will change accordingly until 2016, when the pre-30′s maroon/white/black colours are used from that point on.

To see what colours/designs have been used for every year, see the end of this article. If you want to know the shorts/socks colours, give me a shout in the commentary section below, or just load up the XML in your Editor app and take a look.

Arsenal Data Update

This database was created due to irregularities in the official database from SI. Some changes have been made based on my own and others subjective opinion. Other changes have been made based on fact.

Please view this database XML as an alternative to the official one. To read more about some of the changes made, check out the official Arsenal database issues thread over at the SI official forums.

ALL players have had a 1-3 attribute increase in the following attributes: First Touch, Off The Ball, Decisions and Passing. This is done to better reflect real life statistics when it comes to ball possession and pass completion. To counter the effect of such a boost, most players have had their Finishing attributes lowered by 1-3 points as well.

There are also numerous fixes for appearances that might not be listed.

UPDATE 7 DEC 2010: Theo Walcott is now fixed, as is Nigel Neita.

Wenger Fix

Just a simple XML fix to put Wenger as Director of Football at Arsenal from the start of the game, instead of him becoming unemployed and finding another club, which might feel unlikely if you’re playing a realistic save.

Suggestions?

If you have any update suggestions, let me know in the comments area!

  • http://facebook.com/FidelArsenal Fidel

Brilliant! Thanks very much for this wonderful add-on to the game! :D

  • Becks

Great and detailed Add-Ons for us Gooners ;)

I think the player update reflects RL much better than the (not always ideal) work of the Database Researchers…

    Thank you very much…!!!

  • Mads

Gareth Bale pace only 16? You’re a true Gunner!

  • https://twitter.com/#!/JossBennett Joss

    What’s with the picture?!

Anyway, always enjoy playing on your db(s) with the realistic tactics etc. too but I’ll wait for the Arsenal Update to be available before starting yet another new Arsenal save =P

Thanks again for all your hard work, if there’s anything you need help with let me know on Twitter or fmbase!

  • http://www.mantralux.com mantralux

I didn’t want to exaggerate his attributes too much, as he only had a 14 in the default database. But you are right, I could probably bump him up to 18.

  • http://www.mantralux.com mantralux

Hehe couldn’t find a picture that said ‘comon kids, database fun!’….so I went with one that didn’t even come close to saying that.

Arsenal DB won’t be long, I just have to tweak a couple of players, as Sagna and CLichy are over performing a lot as it is (they both always have 8.00+ ratings after 6 months with the current database).

  • Tom

So is the database in the 4-2-3-1 article not supposed to get exactly RL results? im in November and scored 20 and only conceded 3, is it worth waiting for the Arsenal database for any major changes? or just start a save with these DB? im going for as RL as possible.

  • http://www.mantralux.com mantralux

You should be fine with the previous database (DS2). The reason I’m remaking it is so that I can separate the changinc kits from actual attribute changes and such, to give people a choice of what they want to apply. I think most people are perfectly happy with the default database, so they shouldn’t have to apply mine to get changing kits and Wenger as DoF, etc.

I think the stand-alone version of the Arsenal DB will be better, but I personally have a save with the “old” DS2 database, and it’s working fine. =)

  • https://twitter.com/#!/JossBennett Joss

Are the changing kits file included in the DS2 db from the main article?

    - Oh and any idea when the actual (fb) kits might be finished? Can give you some help if you want? =P

  • http://www.mantralux.com mantralux

Yes, the DS2 database includes the changing kits, exactly the same as the stand-alone version. So you can definitely keep using that file if you don’t want to start another save. =)

All the 2D kits are almost finished, it’s the 3D kits that are taking some time to get right. It’s also not going to be possible having the 3D automatically change every year, it will have to be done manually unless I can get an SI dev to overhaul the textures system. =P

  • https://twitter.com/#!/JossBennett Joss

That’s a pity, but worth manually transferring all the 3D kits each year when they’re that quality!

If you need any help with 2D kits just let me know ;)

  • http://www.mantralux.com mantralux

Yeah luckily a season takes a while in the game, so hopefully it won’t be too annoying. Nothing I can do unfortunately. The ideal situation would be that the textures change just like the 2D graphics – by putting a year at the end of the string in the XML, but that doesn’t work for some reason. =P

  • sunneh

hey ive been trying to use the database u uploaded but i cant seem to go to the page

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1897235/fm/mantraluxblog/custom-databases/choosedatabase.jpg

jus wanna noe is the editor data folder already supposed to be there or am i supposed to create a new one?cus mine dosent have it originally.

and after i put the file into the folder i jus nid to start a new game right? but the select editor data option is unselectable at the screen and the game jus automatically loads up their local database. help please thanks load :)

  • http://www.mantralux.com mantralux

The ‘Choose database’ prompt comes up automatically if there are any files in the ‘editor data’ folder. If you don’t have one, create it and you should be able to select the database at the start of a new save. =)

  • https://twitter.com/#!/JossBennett Joss

Hehe no worries, more than content to download and replace 3D kits every close-season, it’s worth it =P

  • bandit.oss

well i found a problem … the emblem of the club isn`t RED & White… it`s black and yellow :O…. and it sucks

  • http://www.mantralux.com mantralux

I had this issue too, and it was an issue with an extra goalkeeper kit in the Arsenal changing kits database. Which version are you using? It should be fixed in the latest changing kits database (0.6.4), as I removed that specific kit. If it’s only the emblem causing problem, you could apply a logo to cover it up?

  • O.J. Simpson

Hey, when is the “Arsenal Data Update” comming?

  • http://www.mantralux.com mantralux

It’s up! Also, I think what you did to Nicole and that waiter was kinda excessive!

  • http://twitter.com/vande500 vande500

Mantra, should i still use the initial database that came out with the tactic if i’m going to be using all of these databases as well?

What will happen if i do that (i.e., which one will override the other)?

  • http://www.mantralux.com mantralux

No, use these stand-alone databases, they’re more up to date than the previous all-in-one database. Skip the DS2 altogether if you’re starting a new save. If you’re playing Arsenal, include the Arsenal Update, Arsenal Changing Kits, General Update, Competition Names and Wenger Fix. =)

  • http://twitter.com/vande500 vande500

    Thank you kindly!

  • bandit.oss

yea it was solved by the new version .

  • http://twitter.com/vande500 vande500

In the the new Arsenal fix, there is quite the error.

Ryo Miyachi is worth 10 million, and somehow has Walcott’s face has gone into his profile, while some black young man has become Ryo.

The faces come from the Facepack i downloaded, so that’s my error, but Ryo being worth 10 million is what i wanted to alert you about!

  • http://www.mantralux.com mantralux

Good shout! The reason he gets Walcott’s face is because Walcott was completely remade to avoid the bugs connected to him. I made Miyachi from the “old” Walcott, but that gives him Walcott’s unique ID. I can’t do much about the unique ID, but I’ll fix the wrongful evaluation.

Workaround fix for the facepack: open the XML in the facepack folder and edit the number that says ’5125014′ to ’28059221′ instead. =)

  • http://shonenbeam.com Jean-Christian

First of all, thanks for your hard work on all this. I’m excited to begin a new Arsenal save with all these changes.

I would like to point out an odd issue that I’ve found, though. I have no idea whether this is an anomaly in your database or if it’s the result of the facepack I’m using, but Ryo Miyaichi has been assigned Theo Walcott’s face, while Theo Walcott has been given Nigel Neita’s face. Upon further examination, I also notice that Nigel Neita is nowhere to be found.

    Screenshots:

    http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e111/kizofieva/RyoMiyaichiProfile_Attributes.png

    http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e111/kizofieva/TheoWalcottProfile_Attributes.png

I’ve verified, and my facepack does properly assign those faces with an unedited database. This error has occurred both with all five .xml files on this page applied and with only the Arsenal Data Update applied (and, if it somehow helps, with these 5 of yours + a J-League custom database applied).

Thanks again for releasing all this!

  • http://www.mantralux.com mantralux

You are absolutely right, and I have now fixed all of this. An update will be uploaded within 20 minutes. It has Walcott on the correct unique ID, it has Nigel Neita and it has Ryo Miyaichi. Stay tuned, uploading now. =)

  • http://www.mantralux.com mantralux

Arsenal database now updated, also added real Premier League fixtures, made by Barkermush over at SUSIE. =)

  • Tom

The new arsenal database is not working for me, there are 2 walcotts, no nigel nieta and just checking is myaichi supposed to have 19 acceleration and sprint speed?

  • http://www.mantralux.com mantralux

Try restarting again, I don’t have those issues. I have 1 Walcott, 1 Neita and 1 Miyaichi with 13 for Acc/Pace.

  • Tom

    ok thanks anyway

  • http://www.mantralux.com mantralux

Let me know if it works or not, there might be an issue on my end.

  • http://shonenbeam.com Jean-Christian

Hm, I now see Walcott (correct image and Acc/Pace), two versions of Nigel Neita (one with correct image, one with default ‘no face’ image), and no Miyaichi at all. I’ve started three games and this has happened all three times. I’m using only the new Arsenal Data Update, with no other .xml files in effect.

  • Tom

Exactly the same as Jean-christian regarding players, i deleted all database redownloaded and using all the stand-alone files, walcotts fine and 2 versions of nieta, no miyaichi.

  • http://www.mantralux.com mantralux

The Neita thing seems to be a bug with 11.1.1 when duplicating players. It should be fixed in 11.2 coming up in a week or two. The other Neita is actually Miyaichi. Either start your career save and hope 11.2 fixes it, OR try and open the database in your Editor app, double check that there is one Neita and one Miyaichi, and then save the file.

The reason for it acting weird is because I’m using another build, which seems to be dodgy with backwards compatibility. However, as I said….the Neita duplication should be the only bug, and it should be solved with the 11.2 patch. Everything else should be fine.

Just to double check, the “other” Neita is born in Japan 1992 and is an AML?

  • http://www.mantralux.com mantralux

Fix coming up in 5 minutes, we’ll have to skip Miyaichi for now.

  • http://shonenbeam.com Jean-Christian

I can see Miyaichi in the editor, and his details and playing position are all correct (CA/PA = 80/-9, if that proves your data intact). Meanwhile, in the editor, Neita has CA/PA of 0/0 and height listed as “-186.”

In game, though, both versions of Neita are listed as Striker / AML and are both born in London.

Thanks for following up on all this.

  • http://www.mantralux.com mantralux

Yeah it’s definitely a database conflict, just finishing it up now. Skipping Miyaichi unfortunately, but can’t do much about it. Just have to fix Theo’s stats, zip it and put it up on the server! =)

  • http://www.mantralux.com mantralux

Alright guys, there’s now a fixed update. Apply it and let me know if everything is good. HAd to remove Miyaichi unfortunately, as he caused some conflicts. But Theo and Neita should be fixed, and everything else should work fine.

  • Tom

Great commintment thanks, i can imagine all these problems getting tedious

  • http://www.mantralux.com mantralux

No worries, I just want it to work for everyone. I appreciate you guys even taking the time to report the problems. =)

  • http://shonenbeam.com Jean-Christian

Playing around with ADU v0.6.2. The whole Walcott/Neita thing has obviously been resolved, and thanks again for taking care of it.

I understand there is a bug involving Walcott having 18/18 Acc/Pace, and I also see that you’ve completely remade him to avoid such a bug. I don’t know the exact details of the bug, so perhaps what I’m seeing is correct, but is Walcott supposed to have Acc/Pace other than 18/18? In ADU v.0.6.2, he has 18/18, and I want to ensure that that’s normal.

    Thanks!

  • http://www.mantralux.com mantralux

There is still a bug in the game that has to do with Walcott, but I can’t do anything about it. The bug is connected to CA/PA and certain attributes – as physical attributes are valued ‘higher’ than other attributes, player with a certain CA can’t have more than 18/19 in some attributes if they already have fairly high attributes elsewhere.

The only solution is to put him on an intense Aerobic schedule with individual focus on Quickness, to make him gain those extra 2 points as soon as possible.

  • Sav

Why don’t you just make Theo’s CA (and PA) higher to account for the 20/20? I did this in my own database and it works fine once I go into a game. Of course he is then ‘better’ than he is supposed to be based on the CA/PA, but it doesn’t make him a better player, it just makes him the proper speed. I’m currently looking through your database to see what changes you made to everyone else, but without looking at my own db I think I had him at a 171 CA where you have 160. (I also edited other attributes, but not to the extent that you did).

The main issue is that I don’t want to go too far from the default values, as I trust that they have some validity to them. And I’ve also tried where the cutoff for getting Walcott’s acc/pace to a 20 is, but it’s too high to be realistic in my opinion. A higher CA doesn’t only mean that he is allowed higher attributes, it also means an automatic higher reputation and average rating.

Hey, this is not to do with any particular article, but i need help with RVP, he is my favourite gunner, but he has not scored in 586 minutes, how is he doing in your save? do you have any specific teamtalk, training, individual focus training for him?

  • krazy

Arsenal Changing Kits dont seem to be working for me only home kit is showing anyone else having this problem?

  • Sebastian

Is it possible to make Wenger manager for Arsenal permanently in-game? I thought I’d gone mad when he suddenly left Arsenal in my game around the 2011-12 season.

  • Patrick

Which update controls the transfer behavior of the major clubs? Under the all-in-one database I never had any trouble signing Sissoko but with the new updates he ALWAYS goes to Chelsea no matter what I offer him! I assume it is in the General Update, correct?

  • Bautinho

I can’t find Ryo Miyachi in my game with the DB’s??

  • Alex

Seeing as the update has fixed the player duplication problem would you be able to put Ryo myaichi back up, but for realism sake have him join in january instead of there at the start of season?

  • Matt

    Denilson passing 19?

    Really?

    I’d give him 14 tops

  • bandit.oss

he`s one of the best passers in the team …. don`t think about ASSISTS omg…

  • http://www.mantralux.com mantralux

When the article was written, Denilson had a 94% pass completion average in the Premier League, and pass completion is mostly controlled by the passing stat (accuracy). That’s the reasoning behind it. The attribute will probably be lowered in the next update, as his average has been lowered.

  • http://www.mantralux.com mantralux

Yes, Miyaichi will be added in the next update. Right now I’m aiming to have a final Arsenal database ready on Feb 2nd, so we know what happened in the transfer window.

Yeah I think so, there is a checkbox that says something like ‘retires after contract ends’ in the editor.

    Way too many -10′s.

Just FYI there are almost no negative 10′s in this years DB. The only one in 11.2 base is Aaron Ramsey. It also seems that Arsenal have not been particularly impressive this year, yet there wasn’t a single player you’ve adjusted downwards, you just gave almost all the quality prospects at Arsenal -10. To put this in perspective you are basically claiming:

    (i) Szczesny is alone as the best goaltending prospect in the world.

(ii) Nordveit is among the best CB prospects in the world (no -10 so tied).

(iii) Frimpong, Wilshere and Ramsey are tied as the best Midfield prospects in the world with no one else at -10. Lansbury is comparable to the best prospects in the world for the position at other clubs.

(iv) Watt and Barazite are tied with the best winger prospects in the world (no other -10′s).

    (v) Afobe, Emmanuel-Thomas and Macheda are the only -10 striker prospects in the World. Aneke is among the best striker prospects in the world outside those 3.

So basically Arsenal has 8 -10 prospects and all the other clubs in the world combined have 2.

I also think its rather strange that Valencia would have more potential than Nani although the difference is small.

I also think dips in form should be done either by adjusting morale or where reasonable to do so giving a player a minor nagging injury or something along those lines. Slashing a 24 year old’s CA by 30 points is far more than a dip in form, It’s more than a years of training to get back on form.

I didn’t even know that there was only one -10 PA in the default database.

However, the PA ‘-10′ means that the game will create a PA for you at the start of a game, and that number will be between 170-200. It’s not totally random, getting a 200 is much harder than getting a 170. So you’re misinterpreting what the number is – the number -10 does not mean that the player is the best prospect in the world, it only means that the player will be assigned a PA between 170-200.

So even though Szczesny has a -10, it doesn’t mean he’s the best goalkeeping prospect in the world. If the game assigns him a 190+ PA, then he’s the best goalkeeping prospect in the world…but the chance of him getting a 190+ PA is not very high, even though he has a -10.

The reason for putting -10 on lots of Arsenal youngsters is simply because it’s hard to tell what exact PA players like Afobe will have, as we haven’t seen him play much for the first team. Instead of guessing an exact number, I’d rather just let the game randomise it, to give every save a unique identity.

I don’t know what 24-year old you’re talking about, but if a player has performed miles below what he did 6-12 months ago, CA should be adjusted. One reason is that CA controls AI team selection. Another reason is that whatever made this player have a +30 CA might have been because of miraculous form – maybe the player isn’t as good as everyone think, but rather just had a lucky run?

I can’t download the fixtures and the competition names :/

on the contrary, arshavin has been bumped down, and diaby as well. finishing has also been bumped in general for all the arsenal players, to balance the increased first touch and passing.

for wayne rooney (the 24 year old troubled boy), an enforced drop in morale is quickly remedied by the game engine when utd start winning games, bumping his morale back up, rending the changes useless. injuries just mean he won’t play at all leaving the team to their own devices, when in fact he does play and drags the team down.

rooney’s PA remains the same, so perhaps despite his CA being pretty low, his stats will increase at a higher rate than others’ in order to achieve his PA. based on the training engine however, this doesn’t seem right. so since this database was edited to match results up to january, for a long run maybe you’d want to edit it yourself to push rooney’s CA up, at the cost of less realism in the first six months.

in regards to the -10 issue, the problem is that -9 limits the players to 169, which is pretty high. but it’s not as high as overzealous scouts (aren’t they all?) are predicting for all the overrated youngsters in the world. so -10 is appropriate, your problem being that they’re all arsenal players (besides macheda). for arsenal fans, that’s awesome! for more realistic saves, you might try editing the PAs of whichever players you think are destined for greatness (for eg. david de gea, if he doesn’t have a numerical PA).

a large number of -10s however would make the game pretty easy, if you succeeded in acquiring all of them, which is likely why the fm devs decided to keep it capped at -9. it’s up to you, whether to keep them at -9, in which case regens would be your best bet for great players, which itself isn’t quite realistic.

    hey mantra,
    waiting for your updates!

  • Mads

Ditto the above. Can you give us a hint about when to expect them? Really looking forward to the new compendium
